Has anyone tried Mike Auldridges' (sp) dobro instructional material? I've tried Stacey Phillips' material and it is good but I would like someones perspective on Mikes material. If you want to keep it confidential then email me personally.

thanks

Larry - I have Mike's Basic Techniques For the Dobro Guitar (BV-1) video. Although I enjoyed the Jerry Douglas Homespun video (and got a lot out of it), I think Mike does a better job in presenting the "technical" side. He shows you scales, minors, and alternative tunings, and how to use them. He also discusses playing fills around vocals. Mike is more comfortable in a teaching mode than J.D. is, and that makes his presentation better IMHO. I got my video through Paul Beard.

I'd be interested in what you think of Stacy Phillips' stuff -

I'm working with the Stacey Philipps Videos at the moment and find them just great. He proceeds very quickly, but that's why VCRs have the "pause" button, right? He begins very simple and each new tune is more complicated, but not too complicated so you'd frustrated.

The only downside is that he doesn't talk about the right hand, though most of it get's clear if you watches his right hand in slo-mo.

I took a glimps in the second video and really ask myself if I will every learn what he's doing there. Have you heard "The last rose of autumn"? Geez!

Thanks Martin for the info. No, I haven't heard that song.
Got positive feedback from Mike A. on his material. I'm going to try it.
I do have Stacey's first of 2 videos.
