These days a "remix" usually involves the introduction of so much new material that little remains except parts of the lead vocal. But happily, Giles Martin did not put hip-hop loops under the Fab Four. Maybe his dad Sir George wouldn't let him. Mostly I think it's fun to hear so many of the familiar old parts so exposed. And I appreciate even more the miracles that Sir George pulled off in the first place and time.
This review in LA Times http://www.calendarlive.com/printedition/calendar/suncal/cl-ca-beatles19nov19,0,477495.story?coll=cl-suncal
includes quote: mash-up of "Come Together," "Dear Prudence" and "Cry Baby Cry," during which George lightly grimaced and, almost under his breath, muttered, "There's his major chord against my minor."
Giles smiled, saying, "It always upsets him when we get to that one. He really hates that."
Well, I would hate that too. But that didn't bother me as much as the 5th bar of "Something", which we all know is D major, but now has D minor imposed upon it. Yucky-poo!

Been reading the the Geoff Emerick book. He was the engineer on "Pepper" and "Abbey Road" and other Beatle cuts. Maybe we should not really know all the info on how things were done or who hated who and such, but the Beatles are so historical that any info is welcomed. I have not heard the "Love" mix, but it sounds interesting and the sound quality will be better than the dozens of bootleg mixes and such that have been offered for years. |

Right, Bismarck should have mentioned pop music along with sausage and legislation. [This message was edited by Earnest Bovine on 29 November 2006 at 10:51 AM.] |

One of my biggest "gushy hero worship" moments was when George Martin spoke at my college graduation. Goofy though it may seem, I was genuinely thrilled to shake his hand.
And as an added bonus, Dizzy Gillespie was also getting an honorary degree, so I got to shake HIS hand right after George's!
Pardon my offtopic moment! |

One of the local Classic Rock stations played a bunch of cuts last week which I heard while driving to work one morning...sounded pretty cool. Nice to hear the songs with a little different twist.
Has any of you seen the Las Vegas show from which this soundtrack ws taken? Great reviews, but I haven't seen it. |

I don't hear that, anywhere on that track...track 9 (number 9 number 9 number...)
but those pizz. strings on the bridge that I never heard before are cool!
So when are they gonna release the regular albums in genuine hi-fi? The CDs are duller than Real Vintage Black Diamond Strings! |

Mike,
I saw the Vegas show over the Halloween weekend this year. Much better than I had anticipated - some crazy a** gymnastics!

It's not a minor voicing- the viola is playing an F# and there is an A and E on top in the violins- I agree with the 'yuk' because something about that spacing is awkward- but it's not minor over major.
