Influential Sacred Steel lap steel guitarist Henry Nelson of Corona, Queens, NY passed away Sunday morning. Services will be held in Jamaica, NY Saturday morning 4/14. He had been suffering from a series of strokes over the last several years.
Henry was a powerfully spirited musician and one of those men who made you feel like an old friend the first time you met him. He will be missed by many. Thanks to Chuck, Phil and Darick Campbell for finding the finding old footage of Henry we used in making the Sacred Steel documentary video--priceless stuff! Henry was a major force in shaping the tradition.
Enjoy what you have while you have it. We're all just visiting. |

Sad news, Bob. He had great personal style in addition to steel chops - judging by your video. I'm sure he'll be missed. |

Sad news indeed. Nelson's contributions to the first Sacred Steel album are among my favorites in the series, and the footage in the video is simply remarkable. We can be grateful that his musical legacy lives on in the playing of his talented son, Aubrey Ghent. |
