I would like to invite all to watch the 2004 movie documentary on the life of Western Swing pioneer, Adolph Hofner that I appeared in as a guest. It can be viewed at any time indefinitely by just clicking on where it says "Adolph Hofner" on the home page of my "Swingin' West" web site www.swinginwest.com

Thanks!

Mike

That's a terrific little doc on Adolf there. Lot's of good tunes with some nice steel licks. Who played steel for him?

Billy,

That is probably Adolph's brother "Bash", Emil Hofner playing steel. He was Adolph's steel player all those many years.

I am thrilled that you enjoyed the documentary. It was real fun doing it. They interviewed me at the radio station for about two hours and as you can see about five minutes total was used.

Excellent contribution, Mike. Thanks to Hank Pell for sending a link over to me. It was nice to see my old pals Gerry Trevino and Jr. Mitchan as well.

Adolph was a fixture around here, fer sure. He played for years at the VFW Hall on CR 812 southeast of Austin, last Sunday of the month. He never lost the old sound.

Herb,

Thanks so very much for your kind comments. They are really appreciated!

When the producer contacted me about the movie and told me that he was going next to the San Antonio area to interview Adolph's family I told him that he had to get in touch with Junior who I believe, at that point, was the only remaining member of Adolph's band. It was great that they got to interview Junior as he really enjoyed that so very much and was so very informative. The sad part was that Junior passed away right after he had seen an advance copy of the movie. He called me that night so very excited. I will never forget it.

Shane,

It is so great to see that you got to enjoy it in Australia. That would be great if you get to listen to some of Adolph's music over in your wonderful country.

Mike,
Thanks for posting the link. I grew up in Central Texas, started going to dances at age 16. Adolph was one of the bands I used to dance to...as well as Jimmy Heap, the Circle C Playboys, etc. Some great memories.

Hank,

It made its run of the film festivals and whatever PBS stations were interested and the producer decided to make it available on line to all. Although, he had been selling DVDs for a really low price (it was a labor of love) his kindness now makes it available to all. I am simply thrilled to see all that are enjoying it and hopefully it will help make a new generation aware of Adolph Hofner.
