I've heard that Carlene Carter has made a new CD, supposedly only available at her gigs initially. It's said to be quite good. Does anyone know where this disc could be bought?

I have one album by Carlene,("Carlene Carter",Warner Bros. # BSK 3204) recorded in 1978,in London,Eng. However, unlike her father,Carl Smith,& her mother June Carter,it is far from Country.(at the time it was recorded.) BUT,by today's "standards",it could be considered "Country". Very attractive front & back album cover shots. Don't recognize any of the pickers on it,as they are, all,British. Slide, electric,& acoustic guitars were played by Brinsley Schwarz. Anybody over there, across the pond, ever hear of him?

I did a couple of tracks with Carlene back in the Old Country. I played on a tune called 'Foggy Mountain Top' (or something like that), but my memory's a bit vague on the point.

I know her then-husband, Nick Lowe, was the producer, but I can't recall the album's name - is it on this one?

Thanks for the tip, Thomas!

Carlene's "I fell in love" is one of my absolute favorite albums, definitely top 5 all-time. Her earlier recordings (the things she did in the UK) is mostly below average pop/rock. My copies of those are in absolutely mint condition for good reason, but the 90's stuff is pure bliss.

I really hope she's got her act together again. That great voice deserves to be heard. Songs like "Me and the Wildwood Rose" give me goosebumps all over. If her new effort is only half as good, it will still be brilliant!

I would echo Per's post. Carlene just seemed to have such a neat personality and natural talent, it's a darn shame she has had to go through such hard times. I hope she is stronger for it.

Brinsley Schwarz is the fellow who led the similarly named band of the early seventies that Nick Lowe was a member of . I really enjoy their laid back country-ish pub rock music . They were really popular for a while in England but not sure how successful they were outside of that period.

If you want to familirize your self with Nick Lowe and his Cowboy outfit, the CD comp Basher is a good place to start .His more recent stuff is a little more low key and introspective but excellent. The Twangbanger and Commander Cody ace Telewhacker guitarist Bill Kirchen played with Nick for quite a while before going solo. Nick's an excellent producer too and he's Johnny Cash's former son-in-law." What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding "is a song you have probably heard that Nick wrote or " I'm on a Twelve Step Program To Quit you Babe " is another tune of his

No offence, Roger! Nothing wrong with the performances... it's just that particular style of music that is unappealing to picky non-popster me - anyone else's mileage may of course vary. Heck, I don't even like the Beatles!.

Nick Lowe has done some nice stuff, though - the tongue-in-cheek "All men are liars" is a classic. Didn't he use to collaborate with Dave Edmunds as well?

Anyway, mission accomplished. Carlene's new CD is on its way. The album title is "Stronger", so let's hope that really is the case. A review will follow as soon as the disc arrives.

Per, you are absolutelly right, Carlene's I Fell In Love is probably one of the best album of the 90's.

Right now I am putting that album as Artist of the Week for all to listen to.

The new CD "Stronger" has arrived, and I'm happy to say it's not bad at all.

A rough decade has obviously left some marks on Carlene's soul as well as her voice, which is now a little darker and doesn't have quite the power of the early nineties.

The production is light, soft and uncluttered (by John Carter Cash), yet intense and vibrant - the lyrics (all songs are self-penned) clearly come straight from her heart.

One or two tracks remind me of her nineties upbeat, happy songs, but most of them have an air of sadness and reflection about them. It sounds like a definite break with a troubled past. If you liked "Little acts of treason", you'll like this one as well. It's an album that will grow on you. Welcome back, Carlene!

Now I've found out it's available as a pre-release from her fan club, carlenecarterfanclub.com. I say go get it, but don't expect to hear much steel.

Nick Lowe was in the band 'Rockpile'

Check this Link:

Also Brinsley Schwartz played on a few very excellent Graham Parker albums from the late 70's.

Albert Lee played on some of her early stuff.

The "I Fell in Love" video featured him playing on a Gibson ES 295 -- doing "Tele" licks.. kinda funny looking..
