Who is that playing steel on all of those great early 50's recordings by Lefty Frizzell
("Always Late" for example)?

1951- C.B. White (Bob White's dad), Curly Chalker, George McCoy, Pee Wee Whitewing.
1952- Herby Hall.
1953- Paul Blunt, Lou Millet.
1954- Paul Blunt, Dale Gilley, Harland Powell.
1955- Bob Meadows.......

I'm pretty sure that's Curly Chalker on "Always Late". Sure sounds like his touch to me. And yes, you are right about Lefty having some GREAT records back then. You can still hear the same formula being used today (in exagerated form) by a few of the young "retro-sounding" groups.

Tim, I like your summation of the retro-tonker sound, "You can still hear the same formula being used today (in exagerated form) by a few of the young retro-sounding groups."
