I called my ol' friend Lonnie Harper last week and we talked for 45 minutes.I haven't seen him in over 30 yrs.but we keep in touch by e-mail and phone. If any of you pickers ever saw a short round man who played a telecaster with his left hand upside down, that was Lonnie.I've been around a lot of lead players who don't like steel and vice-versa,but when the two play together it can be beautiful.Lonnie is the best I have ever worked with and he taught me a lot.A lot of you steel players from coast to coast Know Lonnie so you know what I'm talking about, especially from the Kansas City Mo. area.If you run on to him pay close attention he is a delight to watch.Tell him I was talking about him and it was good.Gary A.

Gary, I used to live in KC (from 74 to 96) and got to see and listen and be amazed at his picking and picking style quite a bit. We still keep in touch via e-mail and the next time I'm in KC we are going to get together and jam. Lonnie lives about a mile from where I did in KC.

Lonnie and steel picker Lew Houston worked together for a long time.

Lonnie was a country picker, but he could play Sailor's Horn Pipe better than a Bluegrasser.

Yes, see if you can get him to come to the Jam in Baxter Springs. Call him and invite him to play with us.
