I have the tuning pans off of my Fender Custom T-8 (one piece drop in pans) inspecting, cleaning and servicing the tuning mech's - what is the best type of lube product to use on them? |

Try using a lightweight oil such as sewing machine oil

I've used oil... grease is better, that's what the factory put in. Lube the gears, don't forget to lube the surfaces where the shaft bears against the pan... both at the root and at the end. A horse syringe with no needle, filled with grease, would work great for forcing into that Kluson hole. Spin the tuner while putting in grease... don't over-lube either. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

I know this doesn't really apply to Fenders, but, FYI - I have been warned by guitar techs to not use light oils on tuners that go through wood. Seems the oil softens the wood, causing the holes to "stretch" due to string pressure. _________________ David K |

I like to put some white lithium grease on the gears when I have the tuner pan out. |
