I have never played guitar other than six string lap reso'. The band I'm with at the moment do tunes that are not always suited to pedal steel or Dobro.
So, I've been thinking about using a normal six string with a simple tuning for bar chords. Don't want to have to learn all the left hand fingering.
I found this on the 'net, #92; http://www.consult-eco.ndirect.co.uk/guitar/tunings.htm
I was wondering what your think. It gives the 1st and 5th of our beloved pedal steel E, but when strummed should fit with almost any chord other than augmented and diminished up and down the neck as a bar chord... If you know what I mean??
In fact; B, E, B, E, G, D could give me a lot more without all that arthritis enducing finger style stuff.
And yes, I have been drinking.

I want to tune purely for strumming bar chords. The lower four strings would fit fine and I could add the minor by strumming five strings, then the minor 7th on all six.

I believe the correct spelling is: Lew Childre.
He was a fine showman. I remember him from the GOO as well.
He was very versatile did old time songs and comedy.
