I have mentioned this before, but now the album is officially released. I am talking about my good friend Tim Rose who is an exciting musician, full of creativity and ideas. I just received this official press information about the album, here it is:
quote: THE SUN SAWED IN ½ GUITARIST AND SONGWRITER RELEASES
LATEST PROJECT: FRESH MOWED LAWN
Timothy Rose, former guitarist and songwriter of the
illustrious pop band The Sun Sawed in 1/2 announces
the release of his latest project by his new band, the
self-titled Fresh Mowed Lawn. The album features
eleven new songs recorded by Rose along with the help
of some of Europe’s best musicians. Recorded last year
in Vienna, Austria, FML incorporates the familiar
power-pop sound of The Sun Sawed in 1/2 with both jazz
and classical touches. "I wanted to make an album that
pushed the boundaries of power-pop and reflected the
type of music I'd been listening to while living in
Austria and Italy. I frequented many Viennese jazz
clubs and found the best players to form the rhythm
section. I wanted musicians who were used to playing a
different style of music to see what they could bring
to the project," explained Rose.
Earlier that year in Vienna, Rose had fatefully met
Hector McDonald, the director of the horn section of
the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. That chance meeting
allowed Rose to hire renowned Dutch classical
composer, Rens Newland, to score the album and to use
members of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra on the project.
The result falls into the lush category of pop in the
Brian Wilson/Burt Bacharach/Elvis Costello world and
pushes to new levels what Rose had previously created.
"I also used an accordion player who I discoveredd at a winery in the Vienna hills, an Austrian steel pedal
player,a Greek opera singer and a German jazz vocalist."
Over the course of fourteen months in the studio, Rose
and Austrian co-producer Florian Manchek created Fresh
Mowed Lawn. "When it came time to mix the album, we
were confronted with up to seventy individual tracks
on some songs. It was quite challenging to cull. We
took a sculpture approach of chipping away at the tracks
to find the most beautiful combinations. Rose learned a
lot about the recording process during the making of
some of his SS.5 albums with veteran LA producer Keith
Olsen (Santana, Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac). "Keith
really pushed me to focus on the songs and make sure
every choice was made to enhance my albums." Rose added.
Not Lame Record label owner Bruce Brodeen says of the
new FML release, "The time has come for a reintroduction
of the challenging talents, stunning beauty and carefully layered soundscapes from FML. This album is
the aural equivalent of a duck downquilt; lulling you,
enveloping your ears and mind with its luxurious mix of
exotic instrumentation,carefully strummed guitars and
electric-drizzled ambience."
Recently, Rose and his family relocated to the
mountains near Boulder, Colorado, where he'll
begin playing live this summer with some of the area’s
most talented musicians.
