I heard a song on our oldies station last week . The song is from 1970 and is called "Woodstock" and is by Mathews Southern Comfort.
Had some beautiful steel playing all through out the song and I am curious as to ----Who the Steeler was on the record?
Thanks ---James Stewart,Jr.

Took me a bunch of web searching to come up with that fact. Should have sat back and waited for you, Roger. |

Jerry, he died of cancer in '88 or '89, I believe. For a relatively "unknown" player in the steel world, he was very prolific, playing on dozens of records for different artists, but mostly for MSC. |

There's a lot more I could say about Gordon, but Forumite Matt Dawson has compiled a web-site and it's well-worth a visit.
Gordon Huntley was a dear man, and endlessly helpful to the crop of new UK players (myself included) that emerged in the early 1970s. Eric Snowball imported ZB steels, and Gordon would set them up, as well as pointing us in the right direction with lots of beginner-friendly tips. Gordon was a 'Day' player, so it's probably because of his influence that there's a disproportionate number of these in the UK today (once again - me included)!
Years later, he was my 'sub' when I did 'Best Little Whorehouse...' in London's West End, so I was able to return at least one favour.
I was happy to be present at Gerry Hogan's Steel Festival when Gordon was presented with a well-deserved award for his achievements. Sadly, he died shortly thereafter.

Speaking of Gordon Huntley...
I switched my cable TV to the "easy listening music" channel the other night and was treated to his rendition of Star Dust. Very cool. You don't hear steel guitar music on cable TV very often.
