Many years ago, I heard the following lyric quoted. I have always loved these lines, but I don't know any more about the song than just these lines. Can any of you help me as to who wrote it, who sang it, where I might get it?

"By the way the land is layin'
I guess I'd be safe in sayin'
That Over the Next Hill we'll be home"

Thanks,

Mac

The song you are looking for was on a Happy Goodman record several years ago. Johnny Cook was the one who sang the song and John Hughey was the steel player. The song is "Over The Next Hill We'll Be Home". The writer of the song was Johnny Cash. The name of the record is "Happy Goodman Family Hour" but I do not know where to tell you to look to find it. I do know it is a fantastic record for any collection for Gospel music lovers.

Thanks for the reply, Paul. Sorry to be so long in responding. I have been out of state.

The person who quoted the lyric to me said it was written by Johnny Cash, but I have never seen it on any of his albums. You have given me a new trail to follow by your mention of the Happy Goodman Family.

Thanks again.

Mac

There was a short-lived two-album set by Johnny Cash around 1980, titled "A Believe Sings The Truth" (Cachet 9001). The song is on that album. I think that album has not been re-released on CD so far.

Kind Regards, Walter

While listening on Rhapsody today, I found a recent recording by The Perry's, called "Remembering The Happy Goodmans", and it has this song on it, plus several other good ones. This is a VERY good album I think, and I've never been a really big fan of the Perry's, but this one really has that Happy Goodman vibe about it.
