It's not my cup of tea.
but..
our band covers it and pretty good..
the crowds love it..
go figure...
Sometimes I do it on the Steel with the Blues Driver..sometimes on the Tele..uhh....with the Blues Driver..
We expect that within another month or two this one will have flown by..
We do not generally do all that many NEW covers but this one and that "HORSE" song we have gotten many requests for..so we caved...
and suprisingly..they are not to bad to play..having a few hundred folks dance is not a bad thing...

Dave, it's better than that, but not for me.
Some of the young girls EMAIL our front guy ( TJ) there photo's ( with cloths on) and yes ..they look just like the girls in the video...
and yes..it is a blues /rock sellout for sure..
and not my cup of tea..but the crowds love it and want it..so we caved...and they pack the dance floor..so whats a bunch of cowboy music lovers suppose to do ?
Play it..and do a good job at it...
We actually only play this song on one gig..a regular monthly gig ..it's not on our regular lineup for other clubs..
The Steel with the Blues driver is kinda fun...it really kicks on the bottom end.....so we find the fun in the music..
Kinda like Cocain or Sunshine of your Love...the bottom end rocks.

I'm disgusted that Mr. Adkins and his record label would release a tune which blatantly encourages grandma-slapping. |

Don't insult the genuine "Blues/Rock" genre by associating it with BadonkaDonk. |

I'm just trying to figure out how my two year old daughter knows the term... I sure am not leaving that on the radio long enough to get to the chorus.
Oh, the song itself? Just about as bad as it gets...

I listened to it on the radio just long enough for him to get out a donk.....and then beat him to the punch and switched stations before the "a" came out.

If "selling out" means I get to sell over 1 million copies of my CD and have the #1 video for over 7 weeks on CMT then...please, point me in the right direction to stand in line, I wanna "sell out" too.
Billy Ray Cryus sold over 10 Million units of his CD on one song. He don't have to work anymore, if that's selling out...I'll take it anyday.
Let the critics worry if its "art" or not, I'll take the money...I'll make your movie...I'll tell you right now I was born to boogie! (lead break)... |

just as a heads up..we are musicians, we play an Instrument that in general is part of a band..a band gets hired to play clubs where people dance..people LOVE to dance to this song..like it or not...
Club owner happy, crowd happy, bookings thru early 2007..band happy....
Actually the tune is growing on me, we kinda rock out on it...like I said above, I use the Boss Blues Driver on this one and play it in the mode of Cocain and Sunshine of Your Love..
I certainly cannot fault Trace for cuttin' this one..I recall Tiptoe thru the Tulips topped the charts too..

Entertainment and art - sometimes the same thing, sometimes not. Sometimes you have to entertain in order to pay for your art. |

Marlin is right, some people will do most anything for money. Thankfully, though, not all people are so inclined. A bank balance is a poor indicator of a person's character or success.
At my day job, I turned down promotions on at least 3 different occasions. Oh sure, I'd have been making lots more money, but I wouldn't have been doing what I wanted to do. Some people put money above everything, and think that a few million would solve all their problems and keep them safe and happy for the rest of their lives.
Sorry Marlin, t'aint so. Happiness is measured, not by what you have, but by what you can do without. |

Donny - I just have to say this - I agree with you - but there was a time in my life where money wasn't the most important thing, but it was way ahead of whatever was in second place!!!!

Donny,
I agree with you, money does not equal happiness. However, in the context of the music business, I would take the "sell out" over "art" anyday of the week.
I wouldn't care of making a statement with music in the form of "art", just money. Of course, I don't have to worry because none of this "selling out" will happen to me... I'm not a singer, I'm a sideman. |

Donka-donk. Hmmmmm, is that anything like Hat Act, Newgrass, Big Hair, Countrypolitan, slit-knee jeans, here-for-the-party or slam-the-president girl singers, Kenny Chesney per se, etc., etc.?
. . . or in loose translation, how about Law and Order -- doink-doink![This message was edited by James Cann on 19 March 2006 at 08:32 AM.] |
