It wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

Frank, You can count on this being true.
These guys are very creative when it comes to pay for play. I have worked promotions for reporting stations. The station sells a concert by a charting artist to a local club complete with a live remote and an air personality, the club pays a nice fee for the on air commercials, promotions, and event. The record company subsidizes the event by paying the artist. The station plays and reports the spins. The record moves up the charts, gets more adds and spins from other reporting stations. The artist, record, publishing company , ... everyone makes some bread. Giving stations gifts is standard operating procedure. Buying airtime (commercials for an artist) and getting spins and reports is very creative.

True?

I'd say that's a pretty good indicator that payola is alive and well! You don't fork over 5-10 million dollars for nothing! (At least, I wouldn't!)

Maybe I can get one of these record co.s to send me a few thousand if I play their CD in the Chat Room.
Geeze what a mess the music biz is.
