Fine exposition as you'd expect from Tommy. Got a style all his own. Good thing he's got a bigger audience now from when they used to use him as a filler over here on women's morning TV! |

I believe Chet Atkins last album was done with Tommy. I have it and listen to it a lot. They do a spoof song called "Ode to Mel Bay" that cracks me up every time I hear it. Also, Tommy is interviewed on a DVD called "Chet Atkins, A Life in Music". He tells how his father died when he was very young and he kind of looked up to Chet as a father figure that he wanted to emulate, when he was growing up in Australia. I love this song, and he did it justice here.

When you finish watching that video, look over on the right hand side and click on the "Guitar Boogie" video. Tommy plays the Arthur Smith song like you cannot believe. Never seen anyone play with a thumb pick that fast!! |

What an awesome musician! That video capture was taken from Woodsongs show #349. You can download the entire video from this website. http://www.woodsongs.com/showlist.asp
The file is about 175MB so you need a high speed connection. Since this is a video of a "live" radio broadcast, It's best to download the file... That way you can skip through the "production" stuff.
Tommy is also on show #245. I'm not sure which one I like best... They are both incredible!
I've downloaded over 40 videos off of this website (over 5 GB of music!) There is some incredible music on there. As a matter of fact, you might discover a forum member or two as you go through the list (Bob Hoffner with HEM, show #251).
Respectfully,
Dave Burr |

Tommy is awesome. If you get a chance to catch him on tour, you won't regret it. Entertainment hardly describes the experience.
It's hard to make your eyes and ears believe he is doing all those things at one time. [This message was edited by Jerry Overstreet on 03 March 2006 at 03:49 PM.] |

I think he's even surpassed Lenny Breau in his speed at playing harp harmonics. But unlike someone like say, Al Dimeola, Tommy marries all that mind boggling technique to flair and emotional expressiveness. That's the thing that's all too rare. |

Tommy is great. What I like best about him (besides his awesome chops) is his incredible inner timing.
He grooves hard, all by himself.
I have a video of him when he played near Chico a couple of years ago...amazing stuff. He does this classical piece that blows my mind, I think it's DeBussey's "The Gollywogs Cakewalk in Eb".
I hope he comes back to this area soon, I'd love to see him live
