Our band has been playing this classic for about 20 or 25 years. It was written by Luke McDaniel. Some web sites reflect that the song was performed by George Jones and the Byrds. Did the old Possum ever record this tune?

As I recall, the Sweethearts album had both Jay Dee and Lloyd Green.

Yes, Lee, they both played on Sweetheart. Lloyd chimed in here a while back and sorted out who played on what songs. Jay Dee played on this one, according to Lloyd. In fact, it's pretty easy to tell when you listen to the tune. The tone between the two players is completely different.

On my deluxe box set of Sweetheart, you can hear the producer asking Jay Dee to turn down the high end on the steel just before a take. Very cool listening.

I like Redd Volkaert's version on his "Telewacker" CD, it also features Muph on steel. It's a great song!
