Eeek! I have some CD's from each of these guys and they're humbling indeed. They've both been through the usual classical Indian education of practicing 12 or 14 hours a day for the first decade and they still practice 6 or 7 hours a day, every day, so I doubt they've gotten slower. If I start shooting and freezing humbles right now, I might have enough meat to bake a whole humble pie by the January 17th release date.

Okay Dave ... I'll bite, what is that contraption those guys are playing? Some kind of an electric multi-key dobro I presume?

You kill me! I have read a number of your posts where I'm falling down laughing from reading them. You have a great sense of humor, and I like the way you think!

They used to play archtop guitars highly modified with sympathetic strings, but recently they both seemed to have moved up in the world since they've been embraced by the "world music" community and have been beating the stuffing out of people like Ry Cooder and Jerry Douglas on insipid "East meets West" collaborations (I personally would rather listen to the hardcore genuine stuff than have to suffer through yet another defeat for the caucasian race). Debashish's rig still looks vaguely guitar-like: http://www.debashishbhattacharya.com/creation_02_item1.htm
Vishwa has gone off into some sort of hammered-dulcimeresque direction: http://www.vishwamohanbhatt.com/
Naturally, in these internet-happy times they will be happy to sell you one of those beasts too. Unless things have changed a lot, they both basically play on four melody strings tuned in 4ths, mostly with a tiny, light metal bar. No pedals, no banjo rolls, just blinding bar speed.

I don't need sympathetic strings.....my playing gets plenty of sympathy without them....
