Hey there -- I am wondering if anyone has ever used a Music Man amp for steel. I know they have a great reputation as being very clean, with a "tough" sound. I owned an RD-50 once some time ago, and it did have one incredible clean tone.

I have a friend who's found a MusicMan HD-130, 1x15" speaker combo amp in his area. Anyone know anything about this model? At 130 watts, I would think that it would make a nice steel amp. From what I was told, it has 12AX7 in the pre-amp section, and 4 EL34 output tubes. I gotta think this thing would be great for steel!

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I used to own one myself back (RD-65, 65 watts with two 12 inch speakers) in the 1980s. I thought it was a fine amp for lap steel. Too bad it was stolen.

Hi Todd;
Just to stick my two cents worth in,,,,they are great for steel,,,I have three Music Man amps 212 HD 150 w/2 12 Altec 16 Ohm spkrs & a 410 HD 150 w/ 4 10" ev spkrs and a 210-65 w/2- 10" ev speakers,,, They are great,,,just my opinion,,,and as far as steel guitar application.....they are second to none and then some..I use at times an extension cab with 2 addt'l 2 12 Altecs,,,blows me away with the sound...

Speedy used one and I had Zane Beck custom load one on my 14 string BMI. It works!

Speedy used one and years ago, I played through one. THey were really great sounding amps. The best I ever heard a SHO-BUD sound was a local player ripping through through one of those things
