A Canadian friend of mine was in town and stopped by the house last night for a visit. He had a CD by a guitarist named Steve Pittico (also a Canadian) which also featured Joe Wright on steel! Let me tell you right now, there's some hot stuff on this one! I met Steve at Scotty's a couple of years ago and got to hear him live and he's definately a Tele Master. My only complaint about the CD is it has too many vocals but I favor instrumentals so my opinion doesn't count much! But all in all there's still enough instrumentals to make it a must have. There are about 14 tracks and some of the interesting pieces are "Orange Blossom Special" "One Way Rider" and the kick off tune which sounds like "Columbus Stockade Blues" but I'm not sure. Joe Wright does a hot solo on "One Way Rider" reminicent of the Bruce Bouton solo on the R.Skaggs recording but does it like him, he's a star picker for sure! I'm glad to see someone playing a U-12 doing a variety of styles on a record so people can hear what you can do on one of these babies.... All in all, ol' Steve's a guy to watch out for as he's doing things right and as his vocal song choices will attest to, he has a love for good old classical country music and probably a d@mn good working knowlege of it. On an old Hank Williams tune on the CD he even included that old electric guitar thump rhythm like the originals had. He's been to school and has now graduated and is ready to take on the world....JH in Va.

Steve ripped it up at St. Louis this year playing with Jerry Brightman on steel and the Curtis Brothers Band both on stage and in the Peavey room. I have to agree with Jerry's comment on Steve's playing, "when he finishes a solo, there's not a whole lot of notes left on the neck!" |

Steve also played on Mike Sigler's set at this year's ISGC.
I wasn't there, but was listening on Steel Radio.
Steve is a great guy and fantastic player. He has a band called "South Mountain" and does many fill in gigs in this area.
For the last few years he did the Jan-Feb Cross Canada tour with Tommy Hunter - Playing Bass!
Steve is also a member of this Forum.

Steve not only sounds great, he's a lot of fun to watch on those fast numbers. As for Joe, he just seems like he has total control of the steel. He was practicing while we were getting hair cuts, I think.

Gayle & I have seen Steve several times in person. You have to see Steve in person to fully understand the talent that he has. He makes the hairs on your arm stand straight up. |

I've heard it said that Steve is left handed, but plays right handed. I find that incredible! The man is an awesome picker who can also slow down the tempo and maintain the style. |

I heard Steve's hot playing a few years ago at the Texas Steel Guitar Jamboree in Dallas. He definitely impressed me. Especially the big smile he wears while tearing up that Tele.
This year in St. Louis I sat in on fiddle with the band in the Fulakwa room and had the great pleasure of trading licks with Steve. He's really topnotch and a real friendly person too. He has amazing technique, but his solos make sense. Not just a cascades of notes for notes sake. I live in a guitar town and we have many Telewhackers of the highest caliber, including Redd Volkaert, Paul Skelton, John X Reed, Dave Biller, Boomer Norman and a raft of others. Steve would fit right in with these esteemed players.
They play real country music up in Canada and have for generations. Steve is carrying on a great tradition.
