Gentlemen, please check this out:
cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1402361546
Can I take a wild guess on the story? Mr McAuliffe started a music store in his hometown in Rogers, AK and sold this guitar to some individual out there... Now it's up for sale as something that Mr. McAuliffe played... well, to be honest, he OWNED it...if I'm wrong please feel free to knock me down deep... but still...$3.500... check out Steel Guitar Nashville what they have for that kind of $$!!![This message was edited by Max Laine on 05 January 2001 at 03:15 PM.] [This message was edited by Brad Bechtel on 05 January 2001 at 05:35 PM.] |

This guitar is a Stringmaster, short scale,
[22 1/2"]. Looks like it is in great shape but $3500 is a bit much unless you value the fact that it might have been Leon's personal guitar. However I never saw him play anything except a quad and he had at least two of them. One in walnut and one blonde.

OOPS!!! I called that a short scale and that is wrong. This is a 24 1/2" scale.
Sorry. |

Leon also had a (gasp!) RED triple-neck Stringmaster. It looks like the one on ebay was just one sold from Leon's music store. Too bad the seller is a dreamer, I'd like to buy that guitar but I don't think that the "Leon connection" justifies the (QUADrupled-pun intended) price. |

I would like to know the person who is the final buyer of this instrument. IF, Leon McAuliffe, EVER owned a Fender double neck, it has been one closely guarded secret.
I have some things I would like to sell this gentleman!
$3,500, for a 50's model, double neck Fender?Wow! I'm sorry, but I don't care if Leon did in fact own it, this blows my mind.

Even Leon's famous red stringmaster is unlikely to go for that much money. How some people "think" is beyond me. You'd be better off getting a $1300 Emmons anyways. |

These things normally go for about $1000. The fact that Leon touched it once or even played it for a while doesn't really affect its value. He is best known for his work on a quad. |

Bobby I'm disappointed to hear that 'Leon' touching a guitar doesn't increase it's value! He was on our show one time as a guest, sang a couple of songs and played steel guitar rag on MY three-neck Fender, (which I still have), and I was thinkin' of puttin' it on E-Bay for $3000.......oh well, one day you are rich and the next you are poor!
Seriously, your work on the site is very much appreciated...I missed it, and it's the first steel guitar related site that I have found that I feel comfortable participating in! |

I stood and watched Leon play that 4 neck guitar for hours when he was about that age and they came to Guthrie Oklahoma to play for dances.
I would almost kill for that guitar however I am poor and social security don't pay me that much. |

Every once in a while, there's an auction posted on Ebay that is nothing short of insulting. This is one of them.

If I'm not mistaking, isn't there a double neck Fender displayed in the Country Music Hall of Fame that was owned (and played to death!) by Leon? |

Actually Jefstro, the $3,500 is the required opening bid. No one has yet bid that amount. I thought for that kind of money, perhaps some of Leon's talent had rubbed off on the guitar and after my purchase, I could pick it as well as he. |

It looks pretty well worn too. Besides which it looks like the black plastic head is missing from the neck selector switch.
Maybe I missed it, but I don't think it's being advertised as being in good playing condition either. |

Herb, I was making a reference to a funny thread in the buy & sell area. Don't worry, I favor the non-pedal as well. Wish I could take Lee's job! |
