2-3 years ago I announced an intention to go by the Pal (closed but still standing) and take some pictures of the defunked place. I never did get there even tho it's just a few blocks from where I work.

I got an email from a member of the media back East looking for some pictures. I finally threw my camera in my truck and drove by.

The site and area is now Latino and filled with one story buildings selling Latino merchandise. Any trace of the Pal is gone and it's difficult to even place where the building stood.

Just an update should anyone care.

It has a different name on it but it is still there although it has been updated atleast on the outside. Too nice for the area.

I've got a 'pic of the Pal' and a couple of videos from when I worked there in 1981 on the "Movies" page at my site.

As I remember, it was on Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, anyone remember the street address, that would help locating the building. I'm gonna be back in SoCal in October for a couple of weeks and I might like to get a picture of the building.......JH in Va.

I guess I'll have to go back by and take another look. I may have been looking a little too far to the North. As I recall it was South of the railroad bridge on Lankershim. The first right would take you to Jack Drees grinding (a vendor we use) and shortly after that was the Pal. Hmmm. Mabye Jack Drees was the second right.

I did play there in it's waning days so I'm not totally lost as it appears. I'll have to correct the windage on my eyeballs and try again.

Wow. I remember seeing Big Sandy there about 12 years ago. Great night.

Is the Derby still open on Vine?

The Rag Doll is still there at Lankershim and Victory Blvds although not called that anymore. The address of the old Palomino is 6907 Lankershim Blvd.

First time I saw anybody play a steel guitar, it was JD with the Palomino Riders, sometime in the '70s.

I wonder if Jay Dee knows just how much of an influence he is with the psg? (And what a great guy.)

There'll be a full tribute page up at some point.

If anyone gets a recent photo of the venue formerly known as the Palomino, a copy would be great.

In the mid 50s, I dated a waitress working at the Palamino Club. At that time Eddy Cletro(sp) was playing there. He had a fabulous steel player but I don't recall his name. Played a triple neck. He offered to let me set in but I didn't.
