I have always wondered why Reagan gave a pardon to Merle Haggard. I sure am glad he did and what Merle has done with his career has been great. |

Here's the explanation, straight from The Hag himself:
Quote: |
There was some effort on my brother-in-law's part, who was part of the Reagan team when he was on the West Coast, and my brother-in-law was friends with [Reagan adviser] Michael Deaver and people who were in a position to examine my case, and they found that I was improperly convicted and had no representation because I was poor and things of that nature, and ... 12 Supreme Court judges and Ronald Reagan -- the governor -- found it right to pardon me. |
The above quote is from cmt.com, and "the rest of the story" can be found there, too. |

This is besides the point, but I watched an old John Wayne movie last night and Merle Haggard sang a background song in the movie. He was in the credits at the beginning of the DVD.

It was "Chisholm" or something like that. It was about the war in Lincoln County, New Mexico betwenn the cattle people at the time. I did a search on the internet for Lincoln County, NM and quite a bit of the stuff in the movie was factual, including the stuff about Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett. I love the old western movies.
