A local picker got hold of an S6 Bakelite Ric and was asking me about tunings.
Can you guys reccomend some common tunings or websites with 6 string tunings?
I think they want to use it on some Alt.Country type stuff.
Thanks in advance,
Pete

Pete
theres tons of stuff about this on Brad's site. If I ever get a Rick B6 I'll put it in C6th tuning (CEGACE - low to high) and pretend I'm Jerry Byrd.

C6 is real nice, but for that Palm tree swaying sound...B11 E,C#,A,F#,D#,C# (high to low)....can't go wrong and can use the same string gauges as C6, so you can switch back and forth...

Hey PETE! Could you describe your friend's new acquisition? Any repairs under the nut at the tuning pegs end? Just wondering if by chance if it might be the one my wife stole from me last spring? Please let me know?
THANX...

Hi Ray,
This Ric belonged to the father of a college student who wanted to learn to play. It's been in their family for a while. We got together for a few hours last week and went through some technique and a few licks to get up and running.

While I like both B11th and C6th, with the limited fret room on a Rick, I prefer Byrd's C6th/A7th tuning, (C#EGACE - low to high.) This gives me 99% of my C6th stuff on the top 5 strings while letting me have an A7th on the lower 4 and the top string 3 frets up. It puts about any chord I'd like within a couple of frets and makes the most of the sweet spot on the neck.

I'd love to run across a 7 string to add that low C, but for a 6 string tuning, it's a great compromise.

I'd vote that way too Paul.

Very much of JB's tab is written for the 6 string C6th/A7th as well.

Course Pete's friend may not be looking for the Byrd phrasing or sound - but then with a Rick under your hands, well isn't that what they're for?
