News: LA area Partch concert on Monday
For those of you in the southern California area, or those with easy access to teleportation devices, you might want to hear and see John Schneider and his ensemble Just Strings present a program of works of Partch this Monday at the REDCAT Theatre at Disney Hall. Full details at:
http://www.microfest.org/microfest20057.html
Concert is at 8:30, and of special interest is the virgin performance of John's new set of bowls; the program, therefore, can now include "Castor and Pollux", among many other pieces.
"Here's to all who read this...",

I have John Shneider's recording of "Barstow" and it's the best I've heard. This should be a good concert for Harry Partch fans. |

I love it, I just get back, and the only listing I've seen for a Partch concert is in the Steel Guitar Forum. Nothing in the LA Times. |

I attended a Partch concert at UCLA in the early 70s. The composer himself was in the audience and was introduced.
The instruments were gorgeous: Cloud Chamber bowls, giant marimbas . . . and one instrument that looked like a few hundred tin cans mounted on a board. I imagine each was tuned to a different pitch in Partch's 44-tone scale--is that right, b0b?
Then there was the time I met John Cage on a plane to Germany . . .
