Don Felder as I am told exited the band a year or three back..who really knows why...
The stage player was Stuart Smith, I believe thats his name. A very fine player. I have seen him many times with Shawn Colvin as well. The boy has a great touch and unique style...
I don't think he is part of the Eagles but rather part of the SHOW...
all in all I thought this was a pretty good outing for the guys....I don't have a problem with same ole' same ole'...

I met Steuart a few times in Germany when he was playing in my brother Julians band. As well as being an amazing guitarist and a tasteful producer,he is an absolute gent as well. Im glad he is having the success he deserves!

For arrangements and harmony and taste, they are hard to beat. If you listen closely to the voice arrangements on 'Lying eyes' and 'Peacful easy feeling' - super! I just recently bought their 'Greatest Hits' CD. |

They sounded great, though I do miss Felder... I was impressed with Walsh's conversation about his sobriety and the (pretty good) song he wrote about it. Good for him.

I agree about never tiring of them. I have played their songs hundreds, maybe thousands of times. Most are pretty simple, yet I just never get tired of playing them or hearing them. I can't say that about many artists. |

Joe Walsh is one of the greatest guitarists I've ever seen.
Too bad he went from the awesome Barnstorm to just making big bux with the Eagles.
The day I heard the news, it was like Joe died. What a sell out! |

I never get tired of listening to the Eagles, because I rarely listen to them anymore
I watched for a little while last night, and moved on. I wanted to see what guitars were being played, more than anything. Their first couple albums were great. When the production turned hi-gloss, the music lost its vital quality, and I turned off. Joe Walsh is a fine guitarist, but his work with the Eagles has always struck me as one of the more bizarre collaborations in pop music.
Whenever I hear the Eagles, I end up listening to my POCO stuff. I like them much better. |

As much as I love the Eagles, I didn't enjoy the concert on NBC last night. The sound was atrocious - even through my HTIB. I just couldn't buy a good sound no matter what I tried. Vocals were buried, couldn't hear the bass, etc. Hell Freezes Over sounded great, but not this concert. Except for Tim Schmidt, they're all getting fat and saggy. If you're going to insist on remaining in the limelight this long, please try to maintain some (physical) decorum, guys. (Something about your responsibility to your fans.) Also, no steel now that Don's gone. It was a valiant effort by the hired-gun guitarist, but just not the same. IMHO, after this disapointing performance, I would have to say that they peaked with HFO .... |

Well, I liked it. No nitpicking, just sit back and absorb the music. If they are having a farewell concert part ll I'm ready for that.
And you can put that in your Dirty Laundry. |

For some reason the mix on my home system was fine. I could hear all the vocal, the solos, the drums, bass, and even the horns and synthesizer(what was with the fake accordion patch?).
In fact the biggest problem I could find with the show is that it was THE EAGLES!!
I think they are about #2 on my "Bands I can't stand" list. After last nights show they might have moved to First place. |

I also enjoyed watching Stuart Smith play lead guitar. He is a great picker indeed.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to catch the show and were quite impressed.
Great songwriters, song productions, lead singing, harmony singing, and musicianship.
In case you couldn't tell, we really liked it. Were we influenced by the fact that we've always been fans? Maybe partially, but we've heard quite a few other bands that we "used" to like, but don't enjoy hearing them now.

It's my understanding that Don Felder was pushed out. I really hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised one bit. |

I too missed Don, but it was a great performance IMO. Those guys still have it. Don H. has gained a few extra lbs. so what?
Great band! [This message was edited by Theresa Galbraith on 03 June 2005 at 04:12 AM.] |

The Eagles did their 'Farewell Tour' last night on Bravo. Yes, there are only 4 Eagles, but with an extra (unidentified) guitarist, and a half-dozen keyboardists and utility men for support.
The guitars have changed, with the exception of Tim's beautiful J-bass.
The vocals were as good as ever. Ought to be, they've had practice.
The suits were a little odd, and they don't move around as much now. But the multi-aged audience was loving every minute and singing along. |

Stuart Smith did a wonderful job in my opinion. He played for a good while with Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash among others. I got to see a Rosanne Cash concert a few years ago at the Hampton Coliseum with only a 4 piece band and Stuart was really out there. When they did "Seven Year Ache" I didn't even miss the steel guitar. With his fingerstyle abilities he did some descending harmonic riffs ala Lennie Breau that made your hair stand on end as they were so beautiful. As for Don Felder, I did read where Don Henley and Glenn Frey pushed him out of the band and Eagles enterprises or whatever it's called over some dumb dispute, probably money. I did miss what he added to the concert. I remember on the Hell Freezes over concert when they did the acoustic version of "Hotel California" that Joe Walsh did his ride and then Don Felder did his and just destroyed ol' Joe. Everything else said, I really enjoyed this concert and they'll always be one of my favorite bands even if Don Henley is a Commie Pinko Liberal.........JH in Va.

Physical decorum? Responsibility to the fans? Dreck. They have the responsibility to put on a reasonably great performance for the $$ they charge, but if you want to rate You have no idea what has contributed to whatever has gone on but I thought they looked pretty good considering that their early recordings were over 30 years ago...Very shallow, that's why better musicians that aren't PRETTY don't get gigs.

Yeah, you're right. Since most of their fans now look like them or worse, that remark was unnecessary at best. Now, can you define the term, 'reasonably great'? |

I just watched the show on my DVR, and I thought it was great even though there was no steel. The guitar player did a good job with steel licks on some of the songs. I especially liked Joe Walsh's song "One Day at A Time". I don't care how old they are, they've still "got it" in my opinion. The huge crowd at the show was proof of that.

Every concert sells out the moment the ducats become availible..They may be getting older but their audience is getting younger. Not many groups can last thirty years and get prime time bookings and make more money today than they did doing the same material back then...Like them or not one can not deny they have the magic formular.Great material and super talent and a gigundo fan base..
