This afternoon I saw a TV show hosted by the Grandson of Tex Ritter. The show was about first happenings in Country Music.
When the owners of Sears Roebuck heard the first WLS Barndance program they told the station manager to cancel that type of musical program. They thought it was "Too Corny." Then the station was flooded with fan mail, so the Sears Roebuck management had to back down.
I saw a Picture of Red Foley & his band, either from the WLS Barndance or the Ozark Jubilee. Red had a steel guitarist in his band. Does anyone know who this steel guitarist might be?

Jerry Byrd worked with Foley for a year or so; exact details can be found on the JerryByrdFanClub.com web site.
Billy Robinson followed Jerry Byrd and was most often seen in a black/white checkered long sleeve shirt with a single neck Bigbsy.
The others would most likely have been when Red left Nashville for Missouri......and the Ozark Jubilee.
There were quite a few different studio musicians working Nashville while Jerry Byrd was there and they can be heard from time to time on Foley's various old cuts. |

It looked like the photo was taken in the 1930s or 1940s, and it was a non-pedal steel guitar.

If it is the pic I caught the player is Curly. It looks like a Fender he is playing and is sitting behind Red's left shoulder? I think Thumbs is in the pic on the left. It is the Ozark Jubilee. |
