It's clear that there is a whole different genre of European music growing up in the countries in the middle and eastern end of the continent.
It's also clear that we are not part of it.
In one respect, it might turn out to be a good thing, since it might bring a new source of inspiration into music.
This is not a racist remark, I am, like most of the post war generation, deeply rooted and influenced by African/American musical styles, but I do feel that non-melodic, beat based styles, such as Rap and some Dance genres, and over elaborated Gospel style "R&B" have become over dominant.
A bit of Cossack dancing and shouting "Hoi" at the end of the line makes an interesting change !
I wonder if the present generation of Americans have any residual fondness for the old days in Poland or Ukraine or wherever their grannies came from.
If they have, it could be big.

Cheers!
Dave

I'll second that, Archie! This year must have been the worst ever. It's amazing that so much money and work can produce so monumentally bad results. Yikes!

I just saw the greek lassie who won,
Well she can sing and is less incipient than most.

Still it is the disco goes world music vision contest,
and seems to have as much relavance as steel guitar does in marching bands.

Surely the real fun in watching the ESC is listening to Terry Wogan and his cynical commentary. The music is crap.

The biggest meeting of musical wannabees I have ever seen in my life...if you consider it a parody it's quite funny...

At least the British entry was appreciated for what it was worth. And BTW, the Greek girl is actually Swedish, born and bred in Gothenburg I believe...
Terry Wogan rules!
