We have to back Joni up this summer and I never heard any of her music. I hear she's pretty good but what style does she play?

Her style is western but a lot of uptempo.

I've played a lot of gigs with Joni, Ben. Get her CD's and learn the signature riffs and you'll have a ball. It's all real classic country AND western, lots of stuff for the C6 if you wish, though I play it all on E9. Don't try and fake it, though, take the time to learn the music, it's not all that simple and the signature parts are essential to the songs.

Joni's a fabulous singer and performer and she deserves a band that knows how to play her music. Almost all of her studio stuff features the legendary Sonny Garrish on PSG.

IMHO "After All" is one of the most perfect country songs ever written in terms of songwriting form and style, a great lyric set to great music. She's got a LOT of great songs (six albums worth), many of them co-written with other great writers.

If you can get her "Cowgirl Dreams" album check out "That's the Way I Feel About You" -- she's not likely to play it live but what a screamin' swing tune!

Have some fun, Ben, she's a good'un.

Thanks Dave, I've heard nothing but good things about Joni so I'll get some of her recordings and try to work stuff out.

Give me a shout if you run into any problems (most likely the same ones I have run into).

Material she has been doing of late would be primarily from the following albums:

"Whatever It Takes" -
"Hometown Girl" - Capitol
"Cowgirl Dreams" - Warner Western
"After All" - Real West Records
"Let's Put the Western Back in the Country" - Wildcatter Records
and possibly her kid's album, "Are We There Yet?"

I'm pretty sure that all of these can be purchased from her website at joniharms.com

If you wish I'd be happy to forward some charts and a fairly recent set list to give you an idea what to work on.

Best -- dg

Dave you have just become my Hero. At a band rehearsal last night we were talking about her music. If you could send possible set lists and charts I would greatly appreciate it. The radio station we work with is supposed to get us some CD's this Sat. so we should have something to go by.
I'll Email my address to you.
