Why is it, that (in America)so many albums are releases as Casettes - even as casettes only. Some of the steelalbums on this site, you can only get as casette. Over here, you can hardly find casettes in the recordsstores anymore (or casetteplayers for that matter.) There's CD players everywhere now a days...or isn't there?

All I sell is CD's (my steel albums) and most that I know in the area only have CD's. There are a few that still have some cassettes but most of those will be gone when their supplies are gone.

However, on tour, there are those that are still looking for cassettes as that is all they can play in their cars.

The Nashville singers I've toured with, here in Florida, the last couple of years only have CD's for sale.

Per it was a time frame thing
At the time the only economical way was by cassette.

Now there are some still left, but fewer and fewer working players.
But the cost of doing cd's has dropped precipitously.

" precipitously "

I can't even say that word..but I think it means blank CD's cost about $.10 or $.15 cents now...

and the quality of the transferred music is unsurpassed..

cassettes, although not completely dead yet , are at the end of the life cycle, for players and blanks alike.

it was a good run though. Early 70's to mid 2000's..pretty much a success story...

The cassettes in the Forum catalog are "new old stock" from Tom Bradshaw's inventory. They were made before CDs became popular. Most of these albums have never been re-released on CD.

I suspect that many of those cassettes in the forum catalog are recorded from LPs. Can you confirm, b0b?

I believe that most of the cassettes in the Forum catalog were produced from original studio master tapes, not from LPs.

I was curious, so I did a tally of the shelves. Of the 160 different cassettes in the catalog, only 44 were manufactured by Tom Bradshaw's "PSG Products". Some of these are original productions, but most are reissues of LPs. I think that in most cases Tom acquired original master tapes, but I might be wrong about that.

The remaining 116 were manufactured by the artist or his/her record company. Of those, the only company that has mutiple artists is Scotty's Midland label.
