Tuesday night I watched the USC/OU championship game. At halftime, one of the worst shows I have ever seen in football. Ashlee Simpson was awful. I wonder who tells these people they can sing. Then I saw her on the Regid And Kelly Show and guess what, she sounded awful again. Even on the MSN home page this morning there was an article about how awful she sounded. It looks like the young people of today just want the loud music and forget about the talent. |

I heard she was seriously and loudly boo'd by 70,000 people at the Orange Bowl. Did ya catch her screwing up the lip sync on TV? I've never seen such an embarrasing moment on a live TV performance. I'm grateful for her. She's a real wake-up call to the industry that there are limits on how horrible the crap they try to cram down our throats can be. You can only insult the public so much before they notice. At least Britney can dance.

"Ashlee Simpson's Halftime Performance Falls Flat"
Her full time performance ain't so hot neither!
I guess some people are just not cut out for life in realtime.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 07 January 2005 at 08:33 AM.] |

I think what happened was, she was looking to atone for her "Saturday Night Live" lip-synching disaster by singing live. Unfortunately, nobody had ever auditioned her, so they didn't know she COULDN'T sing live. By the second chorus, I was begging them to let her lip-synch again. By the third one, I turned it off. I did find it somewhat comforting to know that at 250 lbs. and age 47, I can still sing AND dance better than a nationally-known performer. Though what she'll be known for after this is iffy. |

I heard that the producer knew she couldn't sing or play Steel..he told her to sing because even though she couldn't sing, her singing was better than her Steel playing !

To put this sad state of "current music "into further perspective, I just saw one of the year end lists for the top selling CDs for 2004, ... Kenny Chesney, rap artists(?), etc, and you guessed it, at #9, with over 2 Million sold, Ashlee Simpson |

And then they have the audasity to put down country music! one thing I learned many years ago, is to never go with the majority! |

I just feel bad for all the "Okies" that had to sit through the first half of the game getting beat up by USC then they had to listen to that for halftime entertainment.
I think that was the first collage bowl game where the halftime show got more boos than any of the game plays.

This is what you get with over use of pitch corector software...
The "artists" are told just get it on the computer we will fix it later.
And so they never actually DO a decent performance, and when it comes time to back it up...
We get Ashlee live and cringeworthy. |

I know no one who bought one of her albums. Maybe I do and they are ashamed and not willing to confess it. For all the OU fans, the game was their worst of the year and then have to hear that junk she put out, they must have felt like crawling in a hole somewhere. I did receive a personal email from a special lady who agreed with me about the singing. I will offer no names but I will say her son is a great steel player whom we all know and a great individual as well. If she reads this she will know she is one special lady and did a fantastic job of raising her son. |

I resent my generation. I am 24 and I do my own thing, NOT WHAT THE MAJORITY IS UP TO! My own thing is Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb, Marty Robbins, etc., and I bend for nobody! I have broke it off with several girlfriends for complaining about my Buck Owens albums and requesting that we listen to Kenny Chesney instead. Or that demented chick who, without permission, ejected the "Johnny Cash at Folsom Prison" album from my CD player and popped-in her beloved Phil Collins album- WHAT A COMMUNIST BRAT! Where does a guy like me find his place in society? He doesn't, and I'm quite proud of that! As far as uptown vocal quality, what about Dean Martin? Dino was the epitome of class! Now, do you honestly think that the majority of my generation has ever heard of Dean Martin? I seriously doubt it. I'm sick and tired of being forced to listen to rap (crap), R&B, Hip-Hop, alternative rock, and any other genre of music that promotes the iniquities of my generation. Also, I hate the fact that most people consider "Country" music to be Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson. In honor of Mr. Alan Jackson and Mr. George Strait, "There's been an awful murder down on music row!" I say we get ourselves a posse together and go hang that... 'nuff said.

One more thing: if Miss Simpson's daddy is really a minister, then how come she didn't learn to sing in church? It worked for Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Ray Charles, and hundreds of others. Maybe she was too busy punching text messages on her cell phone during the singing portion of the worship service. And as far as her daddy being a minister, he needs to hear Ray Stevens' song "Would Jesus Wear A Rolex". His daughters are trashy, and he has gone greedy! Once again, 'nuff said.
Hating on the Simpsons,

Aw, geez. Give the kid a break. Maybe she can't sing. Maybe she can't lip-sync right. Maybe she can't play any instrument. Maybe she's out of her element. Maybe she can't even measure up to punk rock standards.
But at least she's not very beatuiful or sexy. |

Gene, You know I love all my Okie forum friends, but I must confess I pulled for USC in that game. I know the game was not an idea game but Miss Simpson made it even worse IMHO. |

The server wasn't up before so I only JUST heard it....
Ya make me wanna ...Ya make me wanna.... barf..
Like looking at a train wreck I had to hear it four times...
just to shake my head and loosen my neck muscles a bit.
Poor girl. her dad is one cruel SOB.
But how oh, HOW did it ever get past sound check???
Who was paid off BIGTIME...
Was this intended as a big comeback gig???
Were the WHOLE staff of the Orange Bowl
so tone deaf they couldn't pull the plug then...
Makes you wish for the days of the BayCity ROllers, Milli Vanilli, Bobby Picket,
Heck the monkeys and the Partrige family smoke this act into the weeds.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 12 January 2005 at 05:53 AM.] |
