Ya know when ya have those gigs from hell, or when you think you have never sounded worse, and then someone comes up and tells you how great you were? I sing for old folks. One day I was 15 minutes into my hour program when the little old lady who had suffered a stroke and had Alzheimers suddenly looked at me, smiled, and then started tapping with her good foot and patting her the arm of her wheelchair with her good hand. I was asked months later by her daughter if I would please come back and sing for her parent's 50th wedding anniversary because, after I had been there, she knew her hubby and her kids. They had her back for a few days before she lapsed back into her disease. It wasn't anything I did, it was the music that brought her back.
How wonderful to be able to do that for someone. Music is so theraputic. Anyone else got a happy story? A little gem?

We had a gig at a Chinese old folks home and my singer buddy thought it would be a good idea to have his Chinese friend translate it so he could sing it in their language. I was a bit skeptical cuz I didn't know if he had a clue what he was doing. It was the hit of the show. They sent us around to the rest of their homes so we could do it some more. Shows to go ya.

Great story, Donna. Our band plays mostly Old Time Waltzes and Polkas and good Country. So we play to mostly elderly people. They definatly lift the spirits of this old country picker. |

I love playing at nursing homes. Once they lock the brakes on those wheel chairs, you've REALLY got a "captive audience"!
