I am in the panning stages of recording a GP tribute CD called 'Gram Parsons: A Musician's Musician'. i plan to cut no corners on studio time adn do a good project. also will get a solid list olf players to record. All recording expenses is on me. the artist can crash at the studio (free except for food) or get rooms in town. i figure teh artists may stay from 2-5 days.

if the CD turns out solid, then we will go from there, i.e. release forms, etc.

also, there is a GP festival every year (Oct or Nov) in Waycross Georgia where Gram grew up. if interested in playing, contact me and i will pass the info along to the promoters. it would be nice to have the GParsons CD Release Party then. Bernie Leadon played last year. Gram is a storng vibe still.

email me with all group info like name, contact info, songs planning to record, rank you group sound from 1-10, size of group, recording history and other merits of recognition.

i would like to have one or two national names on it also if possible.

anyway what do ya'll think?

peace,
billy

Not that there can't be more that one but someone put together a G.P. tribute cd not too long ago. Maybe one with a different angle or something.

Billy... it's a fine idea. Gram was indeed an icon worth a tribute, or two, or three

Another could be cool...

A local DJ at KBOO, our local listener sponcered station, recently said to me, "...Gram influenced so many artists, but you never hear him on the radio... I'm gonna play some Gram Parsons on MY show."

yes the DJ was correct.

he's is called the 'musicians musician'.

my old lead guitar player (rock) always put on GP while he was taking a shower. he said it was great bathroom music.

forgot name, but a major alternative rock label in Europe had a picture of Gram Pasons on the wall in the mainn lobby with a caption below the picture explaining how GP wasn't afraid to take the different path in rock and roll (para-phrased).

Jim (Roger) McQuinn was quoted as saying Gram . . . never made a bad record . . . we (Byrds) though we were getting a piano player adn we got George Jones in a Nudie Suit!

BTW: who has seen pictures of GP Nudie Suit? wwell, it has all of bhis favorite vices . . maryjane leaves, pills, bare breasted women, martinie (sp?) drinks and a red cross on the back.

check out my web site for some pictures of GP.

he may have the greatest influence on pop music (rock & country) of any artist that is NOT very well known. GP is known around the world but yet most people around you have no idea who GP is!

peace,
billy

i am trying to do a CD not a festival. Waycross, GA. also has a good GP tribute festival every Fall. as i said earlier, Bernie Leadon was there last Festival.

let me make this invitation to all the players in the upcoming GP tribute to coantac me if interested in tracking yur best GP covers at Grievous Angel Productions in Statesboro, GA. this Spring.

i could sue some help from all in getting players interested. its a free session that will go on for weeks. sechdule some toime (FREE) track and hang around.

the only restriction is that the tunes must have been played or written by GP and be done on GP's solo projects. GP solo albums, FBBros (GP era), Submarine Band and the Byrds tunes that GP was on.

If curious go to my web site to cehck out the studio: ~14' of analog control adn digital consoles (Tascam M5000 40 Mic in x 24 buss out x 40 DO all balanced and Nuendo running on a Tyan S2485 AMD Opteron CPU, SATA RAID), etc.) BYW: i am looking for a 16 or 24 track (perfer 16 track) analog recorder on 2" tape to buy. pass it on please. great mics, pres, etc. CR and 3 rooms / booths. in the wood on the Ogeechee Riveri.e. swimm, fish, hunt, cook, rise hell, VERY Private with Video cameras on all outside doors, players can crash at the studio to save money. all free except food. this is to promote GP and country rock music, not for GAp to charge for studio time. besides all that, it's fun!!!

anyone, who do i need to contact about the upcoming GP festival and help in lining up players for the CD?

when and where is this festival, i'd love to go.

peace,
billy

just a note: the GP CD is not to promote pedal steel players on GP tunes but promote GP's music in general. acoustic groups to electric groups are wanted.

later,
billy
