I tune some of my lap steels to open G tuning. It works fine.

Originlly being a Dobro player,I used to tune my lap steel in the G tuning. I would then end up playing it like a Dobro which was not my goal. I found that by going to a different tuning,C6 or A6,that I would then play it more like a steel guitar.
