I'd probably guess "Look At Us" by Vince Gill too because it's got a great intro. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10 [This message was edited by Brett Day on 02 January 2005 at 11:00 PM.] |

I would think it would be Lloyd Green's work on either D.I.V.O.R.C.E. or Farewell Party.

Teach Your Children, then Sleepwalk, then Your Cheating Heart.
Sleepwalk may be better known in Europe.
No lyrics, and a melody ANYBODY can dig.
These songs are known, if not by name, at lkeast by sound around the world, as much as I may like some of the country ones, they just don't get the same wide range recognition.
Frankly I playe steel and have NO CLUE about many named above...
But Teach your Children, then Sleepwalk, then Your Cheating Heart,
jump right out even over here. |

The only thing about "Your Cheating Heart", is that the thread topic said PSG, which Cheating Heart was done on non-pedal. Otherwise, it is quite recognizable. |

Good point, Lem. That would also disqualify Sleepwalk, leaving, in my opinion, Teach Your Children as the hands-down winner. |

To the "Swinging Doors" nomination, I would concur and also add "The Bottle Let Me Down."
Certain songs have intros that have become, for all intents and purposes, part of the composition of the song. I would say "Statue of A Fool" (dum-dum-dum-dum-dum ), and to a lesser extent "Night Life," fall into that category as being among the most recognizable insofar as being able to identify the song immediately upon hearing the intro. Also included would be "Sleepwalk's" opening 8 bars.
"Together Again" technically has no steel intro. The songs starts with a cold vocal.

I always thought Big City had a great steel intro, simple but cool...and very recognizable. (although it's technically twin fiddles for the first half) |

I'd like to add "Walkin'The Floor Over You" by Ernest Tubb.
When Buddy and Leon hit that intro, there was no doubt what song that was going to be. |
