Topic: Thank you God for the gift of music |

Other than Love, the best thing a human can experience is music. As most of you know, I have been ready to end my life in the recent years. Tonight, I have experienced the most joy that I have in years. I have been watching PBS all night. It started with Phil Collins Live in Paris. I know he is not country, but believe it or not, there are other types of music other than country. Following that, I had to switch between PBS stations airing the George Jones 50 year anniverary special and the Crossroads guitar festival. Then seeing Chris Issacs and Norah Jones on ACL was great. Right now I am watching SOUNDSTAGE with Amy Grant and Peter Ceterea. I have missed these two in the past. Definately my loss. These are two of the greatest artists I have ever seen.
I have been thinking recently of selling all my equipment and saying "to Hell with music" , but these programs tonight have been a big inspiration to me. I am now going to buy a multitrack recorder and record myself.
I just want to thank God and all of my forum friends for believing in me.

I couldn't agree with you more! I don't know what I'd do if it weren't for music. It's like therapy for me - and has seen me through the best and worst of times. Music heals and speaks to people better than anything. I have met so many life long friends through playing music. I too thank God my Dad passed his music on to me, and I am now passing my it on to my son, and the kids in the school I teach music at. By the way, I'm so fortunate that this school is in a small community where I can still get by with having a CHRISTmas Concert....and can have the kids sing "Away in a Manger" and "Silent Night" and not get sued over it. Merry CHRISTmas to everyone, and remember the reason for the season.

| I came from a family of seven boys and two girls. There were 6 boys before a girl came along. The first 6 boys all played some sort of musical instrument. I do not know why but music sure has meant a lot more to me than any of them. As a teenager I wanted a steel, and when I bought my first one in 1979, I still have the desire to play today. I have found no other instrument that has brought me the joy of music like this instrument has. Periodically I just sit down and get the headphones on, pull out the records,tapes and CD's and listen to some of the great steel players. Those guys inspire me even more. |

Yes, music is a wonderful gift. It allows us to share our feelings with people near and far, from our closest friends to complete strangers. Music binds together cultures and generations, religions and nations. It also provides a "universal language" for connecting cultures, generations, religions and nations to each other. It's one of the most wonderful gifts imaginable.

Music as a gift from God pretty much sums it up. Can you imagine a world without music? Nothing in this world can come close to speaking to a persons soul.
Another gift from God is you Richard. Thank God you've found your inspiration and for giving you what it takes to stick around with us here on the forum.
Yet another gift to all of us is this forum of b0b's. This forum and the friends I've found here has meant more to me than words will ever be able to describe.

Maybe you could come by my little home studio and I could track you and your steel, especially if the accompaniment is BIAB or some audio backup track you bring with you. Might be fun.  I'd enjoy recording a real steeler (instead of me) sometime.

Amen and Amen! As one whose formative years were rife with derision at being musical minority amidst athletic majority, I get the last laugh.
What I'm still at and enjoying, so many others are now only overweight and out-of-shape commmentators.
