I mean, the songs that get everybody out on the floor dancing, and cheering the band.
Let's do a list for both country and rock.
For rock, in my experience, if you played these three all night long, you would be a hit:
Gloria
Twist and Shout
What I like About you

Who'da thunk Sam The Sham and the Pharoes would make this list.

Les Yeux Noir always works for us.
I actually played it with a balalika player last night, it went over well.

Lady Be Good done swing.

Ill thin on rock and country later.

I always thought it would be great to play Alabama's "If your'e gonna play in Texas," but without having a fiddle in the band. I would love to see the reactions you get. But I guess that only works in Texas.

Waylon Jennings' "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?".

My brother saw him in Boston some years ago and, as he says, "This song was the opener, and you wouldn't have believed what it did to the crowd. No one could sit still!"

All he needed were two chords played the right way!

Pete, do you play the steel on "Little Sister".
My band plays this one a lot, but i have never heard the steel on it.
Any tricks to playing it on the steel guitar?
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
Let's have a few more!

Bob,
I usually sing Little Sister while playing a 6 string electric.
I recently played steel with a group and the guitar player did Little Sister.
I played it on the 6th neck using fat 7th chords. For my steel solo I stuck fairly close to the verse melody line, but was wingin' it for the most part!

Back in my original band (with a fiddle) the Alabama stuff was sure fire, "Gonna Play in Texas" and "Mountain Music." Used to do a surf medly, that worked well. On the rock side, "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" always gets a reaction, ZZ Top too.
