According to an article reported by the Associated Press, 16 violinists at the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn, Germany are suing for a pay raise on the grounds that they play many more notes per concert than their colleagues do. They argue that they work more than those who play instruments such as the flute, oboe, and trombone.
Wonder how long before the idea catches on over here  Just think of the possibilities.

While the violinists are playing their notes,the other players have to play
the rests.
They still have to hold their instruments, read the charts and wait to go to the can like everyone else.

Hey, what a great idea! We all can start charging per notes played!
Here's my prospective price list (I hope I'm cheaper than the Lead Guitar Player!):
Intro - $2
Extended Intro - $3.50
Solo (full verse or chorus) - $5
Solo (short) $3.50
Ending $2.50
Twin parts (w/guitar) $1.50 per instr.
So you can offer them a daily special like:
Get a full song (Intro, Full Solo and Ending) for only $8 and get the fills in the middle for free!
Wow, we all might get rich!

| Well, yeah, the violins play more notes. But there are a lot more of them. So the violin pay should be split among all the violins, and the trombone pay can be split among the two to four bone players. This all seems kind of ridiculous. What about the conductor? Is he playing zero notes, or is he playing all of them because he is directing all of them? |

...just change the Beethoven Orchestra to the Wagner Orchestra and everyone will get equal time...
...maybe the cellos and tympani should be paid more to cover the cartage... |

Well,
Let's see, if we carry this to other fields, even a poor pitcher throws more balls than most any other player on the field. Does this then mean he should be paid more than any player on the field, not to mention the better pitchers?
Or a quarterback on a football team?
What about bowling?
Hey, how bout golf, now there is one for ya The player who hits more balls wins the highest purse. "Wowee handicappers, ya got it made--the line forms to the right"
Anyone for Tennis?
So "Orange Blossom Special" pays more than "Blue Jade"? Or "Danny Boy"? Hmmmmmm
"Jerry and Lloyd, sorry can't pay you as much as dat player shootin dat 22 rifle!!"
Does a drummer really play "notes". hmmmmmm Or a Morroca player? How bout a tamborine player?
"Hey Casius, sorry bubba but we gotta take most of your winnings back, just about every one of you opponents threw many more punches than you did!!"
I think I'll learn to play golf.
Seriously, this is typical of what is happening all over in the world of lawsuits. It will be interesting to see how this one is ajudicated.
Did someone say "frivolous lawsuits"?

If you have every tried to bow one note with vibrato for 32 bars on contrabasse in perfect intonation at 40 bpm, then you know these violinists are totally full of them selves.
After this ONE note you're PRAYING for a 2 bar rest.
I can pick up a fiddle and play that same note all night. |

I don't follow baseball, but in football, starting quarterbacks, with very very few exceptions get w-a-a-a-y more money than anyone else on the field

LOL ain't it the truth, except in the movies...
We had a symphony 1st violin, who was also irish in my NYC bluegrass band...
He lasted 8 months and was nearly kicked out bodily.
A true nutter, last seen busking in Paris of all places.
At our 1st gig, he saw "some dames on the street" and went to approach them,
in apparent desperation...
These "ladies" were not of the normal gender (in NYC, right),
but he couldn't tell what was obvious to us, and was pissed off when we dragged him back into the gig...

Don't let any banjo players hear about this revolt. 'Course they don't play in any or-chess-tra, but if they hear about this pay per note scheme they are liable to take up the cause.
Followed by the mandolin players and the bluegrass flat pickers. Next thing Eddie Van Halen will join in, followed by the guitar shredders. At some point the musicians union will jump in and forbid these people to play until they are justly paid for mega notes per measure.
A general strike will be called and all fast pickers will not play until it is settled.
You know what this means................
