One of the Herb Remington signature string sets in the Forum catalog is this one:

E13th
-------
E .014
C# .017
B .020
G# .024w
E .030
D .034
B .038
G# .046
The same tuning and gauges are listed at Scotty's site (see "Misc. 8 String Non Pedal Tunings" toward the bottom of the page).

I've never seen anything written for this tuning, or heard of anyone playing it. The strings are sitting on my shelf - no one has ever ordered a set from me. Is this something that only Herb uses? What's the story on this tuning?

I used this tuning a lot back in the early 40's. It is a good one.
I used to tune that D to C# to play full E6.

Then raise both C# to D for E7. Drop the B and G# a whole tone to A and F# for a full A6, for swing and hawaiian, etc.

No pedals. Just change the tunings a little for different songs. I thought is was nice later to get pedals and do all those changes for me......al
