A local player here just received delivery of his custom-built Deneve 8-string resonator guitar and I'd have to say that it's one impressive axe. It got me thinkin' though, about the National Resophonic Tri-cone I own and how much more I'd enjoy playing the thing if it had 8 strings. So here's my question: Has anyone converted one of these or a similar guitar to an 8-string neck? Since this Tri-cone does have a "bolt-on" Spanish-style neck, a swap-out with an 8-stringer would be a piece of cake. Install an 8-groove bridge saddle and nut and a different tailpiece and that should do it, right? Does anybody know who might do such a conversion for me?

Hey Eric, even though I've built a metal tricone before I wouldn't want to work on a pricey instrument like your's.
You might try asking National, they make squarenecks for them now. Or this guy http://www.roots66.com/ngr/ He used to work at National and has a good reputation.

Thanks for the good suggestions! Looks like I'll have to pester Don Young at National-Reso again. He did the Hawaiian set-up on my Tri-cone a few years back and at the time, it was the first such mod they had done to one of their Tri-cone guitars. I hadn't known of the 12-string necks. I imagine these would have the slightly wider fretboard and longer headstock needed to accomodate a couple of extra tuners and strings. I can see this becoming an interesting project!
