Played a 1954 Fender Stringmaster on Fastball's new single "You're An Ocean". Lap steel is definitely alive and kicking.

I for one would like to know more about the setup you used to get that sound. It's really a nice sound, sort of what I'd like to get myself from any one of my lap steels.

Hi Brad,
I’m pretty sure it was just the steel going through and old RAT pedal into the amp. Tweaked the pedal till we were happy. It was at the end of a session of pedal steel overdubs and almost an afterthought to put it on. I’ll try to find out what kind of mic pre Greg Goldman (the engineer) used, since that would have affected some of the sound.
The steel is long scale with 2 chrome pickups per neck (double Cool. Glad you like the sound.

Brad,
I guess I should add that it was through a Nashville 400.

I pulled my picks out a bit straighter and played them a little more angled than usual to get more bite out of the steel. Since the tracks were done except for the steel, I had to make sure it sounded more like the steel was pulling the music, not just following it.
