I've got a couple of old video tapes of Hee Haw and a couple of other shows which have appearances by Don Williams. He only has a bass player and a lead guitarist. Does anyone know who the lead player was? This guy is one killer picker. He was skinny and played a Stratocaster and must have had very skinny strings on the thing as he really bent them wires. The stuff he did really knocked me out but I didn't see any credits to find out who he was.

Jerry, from what I remember the guitar player's name is Danny Flowers. I think that he also wrote "Tulsa time". Hope my memory serves me right.

Ray, is his first name Danny, or Herby? He did write "Tulsa Time," and I think he's from England. He played Lloyd's licks on that Strat(but not Lloyd's tone!), and did a good job, I thought. |

Stephen, I went and looked up the album that I have and his name is Danny Flowers. Don used all studio musicians on his albums including Mr. Lloyd Green. But that Danny Flowers was one heck of a picker ans we were both right, he did write Tulsa Time. Thanks.

The steel & dobro on Don's first recordings caused me to buy them. When he came to our area, I really was looking forward to seeing who was working the road with him on steel. I couldn't imagine those songs with no PSG! I wanted my money back! Lloyd's sound made Don's career take off, and I sure wish he had carried a PSG during those years. |

Ray, you're right. I had forgotten--possibly a chemical imbalance on my part. But Danny was a good picker, wonder where he is today? |

Hi Stephen, I did a quick search and found out that Danny Flowers is in Nashville. Here's a link that tells something about him. http://www.hoedown.org/index2.html
