Who wrote "The Rose"?

I tabbed it out for a student, and sent it to Bob at the PSGA, but he needs to know who wrote it before he can publish the tab in his newsletter.

How do you find out this sort of stuff?

All songs are now available for search at the loc.gov web site. Patents at the uspto.gov web site. Ever wonder what the secret ingredient is in that product? Find out in a patent search.

I forgot to add that many times the songs are under contract with a publisher and do not reveal the writer. But you can also do song searches at ascap and bmi web sites which DO list writers.
