| Many of us have talked about Daryl's great CD, and especially " I Never Go Around Mirrors". He also does a great job on Johnny's song, and even has Johnny come in on the recitation at the close. Of course, Mike Johnson is great on the cut, as well as the other 11. |

Without a doubt the best Country CD to come out in a long while. Also the very last time Paycheck was heard from and the irony of the songs message WOW.

| I picked up this CD for my birthday. It costs $25.99 here in this part of Canada and it is worth every cent. I understand that they recorded with an independant label or maybe at least it wasn't a major label. It is a high quality CD with good country tunes. The steel solo in "I never go around mirrors" is just awesome. |

The steeler on that album was Mike Johnson.
Remember that name,'cause you'll,most likely,be seein' it on alot of albums from now on. I met him when he was workin' for Mel Street,back in the '70's. He had to "copy" Lloyd's "licks" back then. Now,everybody's gonna be copyin' HIS licks. (if they can.)

Wasn't Mike the band director and steel player on "You can be a Star" when Jim Ed Brown was the M.C.? Thats been several years ago and he was great even then! If I'm thinking right, I think it was him.

Yes, Mike was on "Star."
What a great sound he had! Does anyone else remember his tone then being quite different than it is now? |

| Mike changed his tone on the Singletary CD.Maybe his idea maybe the producers.His tone on the Singletary CD is my least favorite Mike Johnson tone.But tone is subjective. |

On my way back to house this evening, I turned on WSM and at first I didn't recognise Daryl Singletary's voice as he did Old Violin.
But the song is such a classic, I knew whoever was singing it was a true/blue Paycheck fan.
Nice rendition and a beautiful tribute to the late and great Johnny Paycheck.

I picked up a copy of "That's Why I Sing This Way" by Daryle Singletary at WalMart ($12.8 on Saturday. Really enjoyed the inventive steel guitar work of Mike Johnson.
To me, the show-stopper on the album is "Old Violin". Johnny Paycheck's recitation at the end of the song is brief - but it is a powerful, moving performance of country music at it's best, IMHO.

This CD really is great!
In my opinion, Mike Johnson's solo in "I never go around mirrors" is becoming the next "signature" steel solo to learn, right up there with John Hughey's Look at Us! |

I agree!! I think this CD is great and I think Daryle is a great singer! One of my favorite songs is "After the Fire is Gone" with Rhonda Vincent... Love those vocal harmonies - and Mike Johnson absolutely tears it up on steel.

I too think Mikes solo on "mirrors" is a great effort. However Paul Franklins earlier version on Kieth Whitleys recording of same song on the "dont close your eyes" album is also smonterous.Both used their own creative talents.
