Actually I was Born in Romulus NY at 1510hrs on 23 May 53.

My time living there (except for the circumcision thing) was possibly the best 6 months of my life.

Steve,
Its a funny thing but the players around here talk about how astonishingly talented and skilled the guys down south are. When I talk to the guys in Texas and Nashville they tell me how lucky I am to be around such great players in NYC. The condisention is just coming from losers with one thumb typing on a computer and the other thumb up there ass.

Phil Spector is a California boy. He and I went to the same high school (different years.)

For whatever it's worth, I was born in Brooklyn, but I moved to L.A. when I was 15 and have lived here ever since.

What difference dos geography make? Either you can play, or you can't. How come nobody from Kansas City has checked in, some of the best jazz in the country...
Or is it just that time of year, when we all disagree with each other??

BTW, Tony----DAVID CASSIDY?????????

NYC is one of the largest cities in the world, Tom. Doesn't it stand to reason that there'd be a lot of musicians from there? I bet there's a lot of cab drivers, too!
But aren't there a lot of good musicians in, say, Spartanburg, SC? Los Angeles, CA?
NASHVILLE????
Go back and read Perlowin's, and Hoffnar's posts.
And just why DID you start this thread? Who's been bashing NYC on this Forum?

There are a lot of wonderful players in New York on steel as well as other "country" instruments! How 'bout the Pedal Steel Guitar Association? I've been a member (under two last names) since the middle 70's or so and can't say anything but good things about those guys. I got some great licks out of their newsletter and other great articles have helped me over the years. They were the first organization I ever joined that catered to steel guitar. I've met steel players from all over the country as well as New Yorkers from hearing about them in this publication. Also I think that the Forum's own Jody Carver spent a bunch of time in the big Apple playing that Fender before a lot of us were not even playing yet. New York players are great but I still prefer Ralph Mooney!!!!!

Oh, yeah -- I forgot about Jody Carver

Stephen -- I have no underlying reason for posting the topic. I just thought it might have been an interesting subject to discuss because it's been my personal observation that it seems like many successful and/or notable musicians/singers/songwriters come from NYC. However, I'm beginning to regret that I posted anything because for some reason it seems to have hit a raw nerve or something

I wasn't referring to any specific comments about NYC (although there have been some made here on the forum -- who hasn't told or heard a joke about NYC?) -- I think it's generally known that sometimes people take jabs at NYC (watch Jay Leno or David Letterman and you'll see what I mean). Generally, New Yorkers simply take it in stride and laugh it off. I happen to have visited NYC several times and have enjoyed it. I think it's a great city.

I went back and read Mike's post and Bob's post -- they're both good posts, but unfortunately, I don't know what I'm supposed to glean from them with regard to what you're saying.

NYC is one of the largest cities in the country -- so, yes it would be natural to expect that a lot of musicians would come from NYC. However, my point was that it seemed like NYC produced a higher than average number.

Again, I never said that there weren't good musicians in other parts of the country.

I suppose if I stated that I liked a certain brand of psg, you'd take that as being a put down to all other types -- SHEESH!

Good points Tom....another reason, many aspiring musicians migrate to NY because of Juliards, Broadway, off broadway, the jazz oriented clubs etc....so possibly a disproportionate number appear to be from NY. I understand for example, that Jody, a staple of the NY scene, is from Pennsylvania! ......Jody? www.genejones.com

Hi Eric. Have you researched the Abbeville Dragoons? And wouldn't that make a good band name?
