Boy, has Tanya Tucker lost it, or what? I hate to bad-mouth the old gal, but she's gone. I only hope some of the young folks coming up, take better care of themselves if thet're gonna be in it for the long haul.
But Tommy sounded real good on the dobro, didn't he. What kind of guitar was he playing? |

| Tanya Tucker quit singing years ago and bought a Twinkie factory where she eats every meal. Chris Cagle wasn't any better and I'm not a Radney Foster and Bill Anderson was good. Donna Hammit sounded great and it appeared she was playing a new Franklin. Tommy was out of the mix tonight but Donna was on the mark. |

Here's this odd phenomenon back again - some of you being unable to hear the steel on the GOO. Once again, it was fine on my TV last night - is it possibly something to do with stereo vs. mono TV sets? Mine is stereo, but I thought that all fairly new sets were. I'm getting CMT via Comcast here in SW Florida on channel 31.
Mind you, I could have wished for BOTH sides of the mix to drop out for that Chris Cagle - he's awful! I found Radney Foster dreary, too. Much to my surprise, I enjoyed Bill Anderson most of all - either I've misjudged him in the past, or the general level of the show made him sound better that he was.
Donna played well, as, of course, did my hero, TW  , but a lot of the show sounded like Amateur Hour!

| I saw Tanya Tucker in Las Vegas not too long ago, and she put on one of the best shows I have ever seen; great country music, good stage presence, super sense of humor, and yeh, a little more fat; but after seeing Trisha, and the Judd child, she looked trim. And she even has the steel play at LOT..Sorry it did not come across on the Opry. I would never miss one of her shows if she was anywhere near by... |

Maybe my video AND audio were messed up, but only during Tanya's set. I guess I never really liked her much. And Mike, PLENTY of folks have been around as long as Tanya, with a lot better track record. But like I say, I guess it's just me that thinks she could never carry a tune.

| The TV Opry sound has improved, but they still "miss it" occasionally...that is, the camera is on the guy who's playin' the ride...but his mike is turned down! I think the sound guy is Tim Farris. Oh, and he responded to me by email the last time I criticized the sound on the Opry! |

The best thing about the Opry and Nashville music in general is the family aspect...they don't throw away stars when they pass 30 years old. I think you guys are being a bit too negative. Tanya was great...she's been around a long time, the audience didn't expect her to come out and WOW them...they just wanted to see their old friend Tanya Tucker sing some country.
Is there really anything wrong with that? What do you expect?
It's not like the Grand Ole Opry is a goldmine or anything...it does provide deserving folk with a bit of work...I always find it refreshing to watch.
There are plenty of things to complain about and/or make fun of in Country music (Tim McGraw comes to mind)...Tanya performing on the Opry isn't one of them IMO. Have some respect for one of Country music's nicest, down to earth ladies. |

Stephen, deserving people with work? Is this what the Opry's for? A retirement home for country music? Radney Foster was pretty hip, and Bill Anderson closed with a hit for "country legend" Kenny Chesney. I've got nothing but respect for real music, whether done by Third Tyme Out, Ray Price, Duke Ellington. I don't think Ms. Tucker will find her place in history as a "Country Queen." Loretta Lynn wrote great songs, and kicked doors in to get a chance to sing them. Connie Smith can STILL burn 90% of the hot ladies out there. And the list goes on...
But this is a dumb argument. I've got my opinions, everybody else has theirs. I'm sorry I brought it up. Thanks, Janice, for posting the Opry lineup every week! |

No not entirely...there should be new along side the old...at least that seems to have been the tradition there over the years. You don't have to like Tanya and yeah she's no Loretta Lynn but she has paid some dues and entertained a lot of people over the years. I was happy to see her on the Opry this weekend...my expectations weren't too high because she was never a super talent or anything anyway but I like her nonetheless.
Just my 2-cents really...no biggie.
P.S.
