I always enjoy his spots on the Opry, with Tommy White and the rest of the staff band really cooking. I have even managed to find a few of his old albums around, but they are really scarce. He sure has recorded some good honky tonk music and shuffles over the years. I have also heard that he was a pretty good disc jockey many years ago. Anyway, post your thoughts about Charlie here. Jason, I too like Charlie Walker, and in the late 50's early 60's I was stationed in San Antonio and listened to Charlie on the radio, and got to see him perform many times at the Various N.C.O clubs there, I also listened to Bill Mack, and there was another dj in the area named Neal Merritt, he also had some records out but I havent heard of him in years. Ole Charlie is keeping western swing alive and I like it.

I usually watch the Opry each week. But, if either Charlie Walker or Little Jimmie Dickens are on the show, I make SURE that I have the VCR cued and ready.

Over the past few years, these two stars have sung some of the best ballads, shuffles and swings (yep, I "borrowed" that phrase from the title of a great Johnny Cox album). And some great steel guitar work is part of the package with Walker and Dickens.

Charlie, usually with Tommy on steel, doing "Who Will Buy the Wine" or "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down". Little Jimmy with Pee Wee on steel, doing "Life Turned Her That Way" or "Another Bridge to Burn". Ahhhh, now that is my kind of music.

During my formative years, it was the "Steel Guitars of the Grand Ole Opry", Hal, Sonny, and Weldon, kicking off "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down", that is forever etched in my memory! Sweet! Thanks, Charlie!
