A bass-playing friend I was on 3 DOD tours with has moved up to Concord, California.
Can we point him towards some CW clubs, bands, or steel players around that area? Any Forumites picking up there south of SF?
Thanks,
Chris

I live near by in Hayward. Pickin' is pretty slim in these parts. In Clayton, which is right next to Concord, there is the Clayton Club. Not too far away in Antioch there is another club but I can't remember the name of it. Other than that I don't know of any CW clubs in the area. In the last couple of years I've been in these clubs a couple of times and the style of music leans heavily toward the new country stuff so if that is his thing he'll enjoy it. I'm not too sure how well Buck, Merle, George, and Hank would go over. Have him email me if he needs more info.

Chris,
I live in Vallejo, which is about 15 minutes N.W. of Concord. I perform quite a lot with different bands throughout Northern & Central CA. Steve's reply about being very little "traditional" country in the area, is correct. If he doesn't mind traveling about an hour in each direction, I could probably connect him right away to a band that occasionally plays at a little honky tonk that doesn't just encourage the new country stuff. Feel free to give him my info.
