I found a very good CD by Marty at our local Wal-Mart yesterday called "The Song of Robbins" according to the back of the CD, it is a rerelease of his 1957 album of the same name. Some very good country music in it, including 2 or 3 Hank Williams songs and some very fine steel playing too. Anybody know who the steel player might be? Several of the cuts sound like Johnny Siebert to me, but I don't wheither he ever recorded with Marty or not. Marty Robbins is one of my favorites. I think he was one of the most versatile singers ever. He could sing any type of song be it straight country, pop, hawaiian, western, you name it. A remarkable talent who is deeply missed. Jason

I have to agree with you Jason. I don't usually indorse many vocalists but Marty was an exception.....(he was also a musician!) The music world "lost big time" when Marty left us while still in his prime!
May the powers bring us some more entertainers of his ability! www.genejones.com

I always thought Marty Robbins’ voice was inimitable until I heard the “Hag” do his Marty Robbins impersonation. Both are favorites of mine.

i think that is the LP with "rose of old pawnee"?? if so, it is james farmer on steel. he did most of marty's steel work in the 50s, although joe vincent was on some stuff in 1954 and earlier.

hard to believe marty has been gone over 20 years--the best country singer ever to my ears--though he was great on pop and hawaiian tunes as well.
