This,from Doug Davis' "Country Music Classics",Q. & A. column.
=============================================
Question One:
I heard on the radio that Earl Scruggs has built a new banjo. Is that true?

Answer:
Although Earl didn't build it, there is a new limited edition Gibson banjo called "The Earl" and it is aimed at serious Earl Scruggs fans. The price is $29,500 and includes round-trip airfare to Nashville, Tennessee, a personal meeting with Earl Scruggs, your photo taken with Earl and he picks "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" on the new banjo before handing it over to the new owner.
Purchasers of the new banjo also get to meet the instrument builders who created it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think,"serious" is a slight understatement!!
I saw this banjo at the NAMM show, and took a picture of it. If anybody wants to see it I can E-mail the picture. I don't know how to post them here.
Shobud should offer a custom S10, with a built in mike holder, and call it the SMILEY.
I wonder what would be included? Maybe a tuna sandwich and a beer. Yellow shorts?
One Earl banjo or 4.917 MSA guitars. Huge decision. The tuna part is easy, I prefer the integrated bread which is known as swirl, marble or black and white. Extra mayo and fresh dill! A nice Fume Blanc would be good too.
Also, if anyone else cares, Earl is getting a star in the Hollywood walk of Fame on Thursday Feb. 13, 2003.
