...this is a jam my brother and I did just to work the rust out of our chops. At the 2:10 mark the voicings I'm playing in my left hand are all Pedal Steel based.

Wow...Awesome Rhodes stuff!

Sad part is...there's probably not a steel guitarist in the world...(not one that I've heard, anyway)...who could do that.

Fellas, we got a loooooong way to go.

haha...well, I'm sure there's lots of guys who can cover most of the lead lines on a Steel...have to be a really strong picker and have a few bar tricks down, hammer-ons and such would help.

The comping in the specific section I was referencing earlier has been done on a Pedal Steel right in front of my eyes before at one time or another.

Thanks for listening guys...glad you enjoyed our noodling.

BTW, that's Thomas LeBlanc (my brother) on the drums.

Well guys, I'll admit there's a lot of steelers who could cop some of that, and probably a few that could cop most of it. (There's a lotta notes "going on" there.)

Now...a steeler who could cop all of that right-hand stuff? I'd really love to hear him...and I'm sure there's a few thousand others that would, too!

Yes...speed impresses me. Some steelers can really "burn it" (I love that old term "cook", too!) for a few seconds...maybe a quarter of a minute. But, a steeler who could play that many different patterns and scales, at that speed, for that long...?

I gotta hear him.

To show my respect for that player, should he exist...I've even "modified" my previous post...by removing all that "absolute" negativism stuff.

Well...this is a Rhodes...keyboard players have always been able to play more notes at one time frustrating guitarists of all types but it all evens out. I can't bend notes on the keys and that is a major drawback.

Also, well my right hand is faster than the average keyboard player.

But yeah if there's a Steeler out there who could cop everything I did in this improv in one sitting...I'd like to see him too.

Speed playing can be cool, I have a lot of fun playing fast tempos and such. I enjoy listening to a lot quick stuff too...bluegrass, progressive rock, bebop, etc.

I try not to be closeminded about any musical style...while it's cool to be able to play fast tempo stuff, that's not always the key to making it "cook". Melody, attack, inspiration, soul...these things get you there...speed can help but speed alone is worthless.

Just sharing my random thoughts on the subject.

Thanks again to ya'll for listening and for the really nice comments.

Stephen
